What Argireline is
Argireline is the trade name for acetyl hexapeptide-3 (also -8), developed by Lipotec. A synthetic peptide modeled after the N-terminal of SNAP-25, one of three SNARE complex proteins controlling neurotransmitter vesicle fusion. Competes with native SNAP-25 to partially inhibit acetylcholine release.
Mechanism, in plain English
Muscle contraction requires acetylcholine release via the SNARE complex (SNAP-25 + syntaxin + VAMP). Botox cleaves SNAP-25, preventing fusion entirely. Argireline competes with SNAP-25 for a position in the complex, partially disrupting assembly. Result: reduced (not eliminated) neurotransmitter release, less forceful contraction, shallower expression lines over time.

In vitro: Argireline inhibits catecholamine release by up to 40%. Clinical studies: wrinkle depth reduction of 17-27% after 15-30 days at 10% concentration.
